The whole genome of rubber tree is deciphered.
Jan 05, 2018

Recently, the media on the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences found that natural rubber high yield genetic clues were reported, and aroused concern.

Such theoretical problems have not been solved since rubber trees have been able to produce high yields, ethylene treatments and so on.

The Tang Zhorong team of the Institute of Rubber Studies of the Academy of Sciences, the Beijing Genomics Institute of CAs, lasted five years of unremitting efforts and joint research, deciphering the whole genome of Hevea brasiliensis, and found a group of genes that might induce the rubber tree to evolve to produce high yield rubbers, and put forward a new idea of the mechanism of

May 23, the International Journal of Botany, "Nature Plants" online published the Tang Dynasty wing team research results.

June 2, the latest issue of Nature magazine in the research highlights column, "Rubber high-yield genetic clues" to introduce the research results, reflecting the international academic authority on the results of the attention.

"We have explained the reason why ethylene stimulates rubber production at the source." ”

Dr Tang Zhorong, a researcher at the Rubber Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, described the rubber-producing properties of Hevea brasiliensis as closely related to the genes involved in the evolution of the species.

According to the introduction, natural rubber is an important strategic material and industrial materials, Hainan, Yunnan and Guangdong are China's main planting area of natural rubber, the current Chinese planting area of more than 17 million acres.

Because China is a non-traditional planting area, by planting environment and other factors, dry gum annual output of only about 800,000 tons, less than 20% of annual consumption.
